How Geocreationism is different from Evolution

I found an interesting article on “How the Bible and Evolution Conflict“.  It explains quite well why Darwinian Evolution cannot be true.  So, because it has much in common with Geocreationism, it looked like a good opportunity to clarify some things.  My comments below are meant to be read side by side with the list on How the Bible and Evolution Conflict.

  1. Geocreationism agrees with Creationism on this point.
  2. Geocreationism agrees with Creationism on this point.  Believing that God sometimes evolved life directly, and other times let it alone does not contradict that.
  3. Geocreationism agrees that God exercised biblical providence over evolution.
  4. Geocreationism agrees that God is judge over all life, its evolution notwithstanding.
  5. Geocreationism believes that God added soul to man, making him a special creation.
  6. Geocreationism believes that God did everything He needed to “let” life be within the recorded 7 Creation Days.
  7. Geocreationism agrees with 1 Corinthians 15:38-39, but believes it is silent on how that flesh came to be.
  8. Geocreationism agrees with Romans 1:20, which only requires that God’s will be done in all.
  9. Geocreationism agrees that God’s providence over creation is throughout the bible.  However, Romans 11 illustrates Israel as an olive tree that grows as it will, while God grafts in branches that please him, and chops off branches that do not. This is how Geocreationism believes God exercised providence over evolution.  Also, 1 Chronicles 14:15-16 illustrates where an independent physical agent achieved an end that God also claimed credit for.
  10. Geocreationism rejects naturalism and materialism.
  11. Geocreationism sees in scripture where God gave man a soul by fiat, and guided evolution by fiat to suit His will.
  12. Geocreationism considers Genesis 1 and 2 to be actual history.
  13. Geocreationism does not consider death of animals to be sin, lest animal sacrifice be sin.
  14. Geocreationism considers Adam a real person, and the first person with a soul and consciousness of God.  Before Adam, people had no soul, and were not in God’s image.
  15. Given 13 and 14 above, therefore sin could not enter the world until Adam.
  16. Geocreationism rejects Darwinian evolution, accepting only the physical and biological aspects of it, and even then only as God has willed and directed it to occur.  Technically, it could be argued that isn’t evolution, but I have no other word for it, accept perhaps “Geocreationism”.
  17. Geocreationism does not consider the changing of a theory a bad thing, as long as each version is closer to the truth than before.  That said, “Creationism” has changed at least once.  Before Jesus, the plurality of Elohim was considered to only reflect God’s majesty, not the Trinity.  Also, there have been multiple creation theories for the waters God hovered over before Day 1: the world’s oceans, the “ether” so to speak, mist, nothing, and others.
  18. Geocreationism believes morality manifests itself through the soul, which is not a product of evolution.
  19. Geocreationism considers evolution subservient to God, Who is the ultimate source of meaning and value.
  20. Geocreationism accepts the Bible’s teaching that man has a special purpose.
  21. Geocreationism rejects nihilism.
  22. Geocreationism agrees that the Bible is consistent with scientific investigation and explains why the world was created.

The primary reason Geocreationism can agree with Creationism on so many points is because it agrees that God exercises providence over everything.  To the extent evolution occurred, it only did so at God’s behest, and went only as far God allowed.  God’s will and authority reign supreme.

[…] Part of Cory’s review is in response to my use of Romans 11 as a model for Evolution.  Though I have not developed the theory on this blog as fully as I should, I have mentioned it: Romans 11 illustrates Israel as an olive tree that grows as it will, while God grafts in branches that please him, and chops off branches that do not. This is how Geocreationism believes God exercised providence over evolution.  Also, 1 Chronicles 14:15-16 illustrates where an independent physical agent achieved an end that God also claimed credit for. -http://geocreationism.com/2007/07/30/how-geocreationism-is-different-from-evolution/ […]
